FREE BIKE WORKSHOP at 56a
Open Afternoons: WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY and SATURDAY

We're based at the 56a BIKE WORKSHOP, a very D-I-Y, non-profit, community-run space, full of donated/recycled parts and some useful tools. We also have cheap spare parts like inner tubes, spokes, brake pads, cables, patch kits etc.

The BIKE WORKSHOP aims to be open at the same times as the rest of the building - which also houses FARESHARES food-co-op and 56a INFOSHOP and ARCHIVE (including lots of cool bike zines and a Critical Mass archive) - and right now it usually is.

However, we need more volunteers who can commit to a few hours (every week, fortnight, month etc) helping out the space. This involves showing visitors where parts and tools are, giving advice, helping people fix up shonky bikes (to the best of your ability - you don't need to be an expert mechanic!: patience and a passion for bikes are more important).

You could drop by the building and chat to us or contact us via email:

As part of the ongoing 56a FREE SCHOOL. we're planning to run some basic 'LEARN TO LOVE YOUR BICYCLE' classes over the next few months. We're always on the look-out for more people to teach for free really basic maintenance as well as more complicated stuff...

Bicycle Ballet

After a break of over a year, we are inspired to re-form SOUTH LONDON's BICYCLE BALLET troupe (think synchronised displays of cycling finesse and grace in a supportive atmosphere, tutus not required). Also to start playing BIKE POLO and organise a BIKE-LURVE fest sometime this autumn, with games, tricks, art, contests, midnight rides, some kinda ALLEY RAT team event, and much more - limited only by your imagination and enthusiasm - we are currently seeking more bike freaks who would like to make these ideas a reality, so get in touch if anything here interests you...
